Claude A. Jacob, DrPH(c), MPH, Public Health Officer

Claude-Alix Jacob has served as the Chief Public Health Officer for the Cambridge Health Department since 2007. He is an Energetic health administrator with over twenty years of formal management experience on health issues with an emphasis on operations, program design and social services. Exceptional leadership, communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated professional accomplishments as a manager, senior advisor and community advocate.

Jacob previously served as Deputy Director of the Office of Health Promotion at the Illinois Department of Public Health. He administered a variety of health promotion activities related to chronic disease programming, oral health education, screening efforts targeting children, and injury prevention initiatives. Jacob managed specific program areas such as men’s health education, asthma education and awareness, heart disease and stroke prevention, tobacco cessation and control, suicide education, and rape prevention activities.

Responsible for the design and implementation of public health programs for the City of Cambridge, Massachusetts. Serve as the director of the Cambridge Public Health Department and oversee a variety of health programs that include school and public health nursing; environmental health; community health initiatives; emergency preparedness; regulatory functions; and epidemiological assessments. Carry out the strategy and functions of the local board of health and act as the City’s head of public health and collaborate with the city, state, and federal governments.
